About Us

Cornerstone Baptist Church is a loving household of believers committed to glorifying God through our worship, fellowship and service, and devoted to equipping generations of disciples to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Although buildings and land are vital in ministry, the most crucial element is people. And that is Cornerstone's goal above all else - the goal to honor God and to help people. We are committed to our church, our community, and our world, to seeing lives changed by the power of God as the Word of God is taught and demonstrated.

Edward Johnson - Pastor
Most people just call me, Bro. Ed. Lynn and I have been married since May 1969. We have two grown children, Gena and Seth. Gena is married to Ken Sharpe and she has two daughters, Laurelyn and Riley. They are also members of Cornerstone. Seth is single and lives in Ohio.

Although I felt very unworthy, I am thankful that God called me to preach His glorious Gospel. I surrendered to preach in June 1971 and have been a pastor since 1973. I have served churches in Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee. My wife and I also served with the IMB of the SBC on two occasions. We served in the Seychelles Islands, 1996-1997, which is located a thousand miles from the coast of Kenya in the Indian Ocean. Then, we served in the Philippines, 1998-2000.

After receiving a Bachelor of Ministries Degree from Luther Rice Seminary, Jacksonville, Florida, I graduated from Heritage Bible College, Huntsville, Alabama with a Master of Theology Degree.

I have been the pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Huntsville, Alabama since July 20, 2003. We are a very mission-minded church and I lead two week mission trips each year, both to the Philippines and also to Nigeria. I also have established a non-profit mission organization, the Edward Johnson Ministries Cooperation (EJM). My website is www.edwardjohnsonministries.com.

My heart is moved again and again as I think of the need of people around the world to hear the Gospel. I am thankful for the thousands who have come to know Christ in the mission endeavors in the Philippines and Nigeria. And, I am thankful for Cornerstone Baptist Church and its evangelistic work. However, there are still so many who need to hear the Gospel, both in our own community and all around the world. The end time is approaching and multitudes are still lost without Christ. My heart’s desire is to reach as many people as we can before the Lord returns.

Rick Angel - Minister of Music
I grew up in Jacksonville, Alabama and accepted Jesus as my Savior on July 28, 1971 at Angel Grove Baptist Church. I graduated from Jacksonville State University in 1984 with a degree in both Computer Information Systems and Management.

In 1985 I moved to Huntsville, Alabama and began working for Intergraph Corporation where I am still employed today. In 1990 I became a member of Hillsboro Heights Baptist Church where I met my wife, Lisa. We were married in 1993. We have two daughters, Olivia and Emma.

From 1996 through 2003 I served as minister of music at First Baptist Church in Gurley, Alabama. In 2004 I served as interim minister of music at Cornerstone and accepted a permanent position in 2005. I was also a member of the Calvary Road Quartet from 1994 until 2002.  Currently I sing baritone for By Grace, a southern gospel trio.

I believe that music is a vital part of worship. The Bible teaches us to "make a joyful noise", and it says we should assemble together regularly to worship.  At Cornerstone everyone is welcomed and encouraged to participate together in worship.
